United States Reaffirms Support for Belize Border Security Efforts

The United States is reaffirming its commitment to strengthening border security in Belize, following a recent visit by Chargé d’Affaires Katharine Beamer to the Jalacte Border Crossing in the Toledo District. During the visit, Beamer met with frontline officers from Belize’s Immigration Department, Customs, and the Belize Agricultural Health Authority, commending their daily efforts to intercept illegal crossings and contraband along the Belize – Guatemala border.  The engagement highlighted ongoing collaboration between Belize and the United States to curb irregular migration, smuggling, and other illicit activities linked to transnational criminal networks. According to the U.S. Embassy, these efforts are key to protecting both Belizean and American communities.  Officials noted that officers stationed at Jalacte play a critical role in interagency coordination and enforcement, working together to uphold the rule of law and strengthen regional stability.  The U.S. government says it continues to support Belize through targeted assistance aimed at building enforcement capacity and improving border management systems.
