Two men charged in murder of Arnaldo Vellos in Corozal after months-long investigation

Police have made a breakthrough in a murder investigation that has remained open for more than six months, with the arrest and charging of two men in connection with the fatal shooting of Arnaldo Andres Vellos.  Vellos was gunned down on October 31, 2025, in the Finca Solana area of Corozal. He later succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment. At the time, police had indicated that Vellos was heading toward his vehicle when he was approached by two men, one of whom opened fire.  Yesterday, investigators arrested and jointly charged twenty-year-old Brandon Alexander Sanker and twenty-three-year-old Kevon Wayne Armstrong for the crime of murder. Sanker has also been charged with one count of attempted murder.  ASP Stacy Smith, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “As a consequence of police’s investigation into the murder of Arnaldo Vellos which commenced on 31st of October 2025 police have formally arrested and jointly charged 20 year old Brandon Sanker and 23 year old Kevaughn Armstrong both of the Corozal district for the crime of murder. Sanker was additionally charged for the crime of attempted murder in relation to the shooting of Jonathan Vellos. On the last occasion I believe it was ACP Romero that would have briefed the media on the incident when the incident initially occurred he would have advised that the incident was being investigated from the perspective of it being drug related. As you guys would note Mr.Sanker was recently charged for possession of firearm. The joint charge along with the two minors. Indeed from the incident occurred in October Mr.Armstrong and Mr.Sanker were being sought. We had intelligence as to their whereabouts and when that operation was conducted to apprehend these wanted persons that resulted in the discovery of the weapon and the eventual charge of these individuals.”

Vellos was the uncle of Corozal Mayor Rigoberto Vellos.
