Two Detained on Caye Caulker After Suspected Cocaine Bust

Police on Caye Caulker have detained two residents, including a 15-year-old minor, following the discovery of several bags containing suspected cocaine during a targeted operation on the island.  According to police, the operation was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on the movement and distribution of illicit drugs within the tourism destination. Authorities say officers conducted searches in a specific area when the suspected narcotics were found in the possession of the two individuals.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Police have formally arrested and jointly charged 22 year old Edan Pineda and a 15 year old minor, both of Caye Caulker Village for the offense of possession of controlled drugs within tentative supply, more commonly known as drug trafficking, as well as the offense of possession of controlled drugs. These arrests follow a operation that was conducted at the residence, which led to the discovery of 19 Ziploc plastic bags containing suspected cocaine, weighing a total of 16.11 grams, and four plastic bags containing cannabis weighing a total of 21.33 grams. Pineda was charged with an additional count of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply after the search of his person led to the discovery of four Ziploc bags containing suspected cocaine weighing a total of 2.45 grams.”

Meanwhile, police in Belmopan have also made a major drug bust following an operation carried out by the Gang Intelligence, Investigation and Interdiction Unit (GI3).  According to authorities, the operation stemmed from an ongoing investigation that led officers to a residence in the capital city. During the search, police reportedly discovered approximately 585 grams of crack cocaine concealed inside the property.  Three individuals were subsequently detained and later arrested in connection with the discovery.  ASP Stacy Smith noted that investigators are working to determine the intended distribution network linked to the narcotics.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Police have formally arrested and jointly charged 23-year-old Ayana Samuel, 19-year-old Taesha Young, and 20-year-old Akeem Myvett for the offense of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply. These charges follow an operation that was conducted by Office of the Gang Intelligence Investigation and Interdiction Unit (GI3) at a residence in Belmopan City on May 20, 2026 which resulted in the discovery of three plastic bags which contain suspected crack cocaine which when weighed totaled 585 grams. The arrests that we have made in relation to firearm were made on the basis that there is evidence to support that those persons were in possession or custody of it in relation to what the law provides. Whenever that cannot be established by evidence it was usually be deposited as found property.”
