Two Dead in George Price Highway Crash

Police are investigating a fatal road traffic accident that claimed the lives of two men and left several others injured on Saturday night along the George Price Highway.  Reports are that shortly after seven o’clock, authorities responded to information of a collision between miles sixteen and seventeen near Hattieville in the Belize District. Upon arrival, officers observed a white Ford Transit van with extensive front-end damage. One female was trapped inside the vehicle with facial injuries, while another female was seen outside suffering from injuries to her foot. The driver and six other passengers had already been transported to Belize City for medical attention.  Also at the scene was a black Ford Escape positioned in front of the van. Inside that vehicle, police found two male occupants trapped and apparently dead. A damaged black motorcycle was also discovered some distance away.  Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero says initial investigations have revealed how the collision unfolded.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “On Saturday the second day of May 2026 police responded to a fatal road traffic accident between miles 16 and 17 on the George Price Highway. Upon their arrival they saw two vehicles a Ford van and a black Ford Escape along with a motorcycle that had damages. Found trapped inside the SUV were two persons who were identified as Nelson Hemsely and Glenn Lamb. They were seen motionless. The driver of the van was identified as Chadrick Ysaguirre and the driver of the motorcycle David Lambey. Information is that the black SUV hit the motorcycle first and therefore swerved into the lane of the ongoing van causing a head on collision. Hemsley and Lamb were taken to the KHMh where they were pronounced dead on arrival. An investigation is being carried out into this fatal road traffic accident. Yes they were speeding but we will await the urine sample results to determine if alcohol was a factor. The persons are all in stable condition and they are receiving treatment. Some were released and some are receiving further treatment.”

Investigators believe Hemsley then lost control of the SUV, resulting in a head-on collision with the Ford Transit van driven by Chadwick Ysaguirre.  Hemsley and his passenger, thirty-nine-year-old Glenn Nelson Lamb of Roaring Creek Village, were both pronounced dead at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.  Lamb’s sister, Sharona, says the family is struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.

Reporter: How would you describe Glenn Lamb and Mr. Hemsley ?

Sharona Lamb, Relative of Deceased: “My brother was a really humble, humble young man. My brother doesn’t go out. He doesn’t do the bar, clubs, concerts, carnival, nothing. My brother he’s a really humble person. He works really hard. He’s a Monday to Friday person, he doesn’t work on weekends. He’s always with his daughter on weekends but due to the fact that he was really really close to Mr.Hemsley. Mr. Hemsley was like a second father figure to him that he would do anything for Mr. Hemsley and so as Mr. Hemsley took him as a son as well. Mr. Hemsely asked him to go to work this weekend that went by and he agreed although he was always against the weekend thing. He went to my mom’s home to look for her, went to work and going through the door he’s not the person to tell my mom “I’m going.” but that one Saturday he told my mom “Mom, I gwein right now.” My mom was like “Okay son I love you. Be careful, take care.” So that was the last conversation my mom had with my brother.”

The occupants of the van, including Ysaguirre and passengers Melanie Blake, Crystal Banks, Ashley Brown, and Tamara Ramsey, are listed in stable condition and remain under observation at the Medical Associates Hospital. Several other passengers were treated and later discharged after sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.  Police say the motorcyclist, David Lambey, reportedly sustained injuries and was transported for medical treatment; however, efforts to locate him have so far been unsuccessful.
