The Belize Zoo Receives International Conservation Award

The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center has received international recognition for its longstanding commitment to wildlife conservation.  On Wednesday, May 6, the Belize Zoo was presented with the Pan Paniscus Conservation Award during a special ceremony hosted by the Zoological Society of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee County Zoo in Wisconsin, United States.  Managing Director of the Belize Zoo, Dr. Celso Poot, attended the, ‘Celebrating You and the Zoo’ event, where he accepted the award on behalf of the organization. The recognition highlights the Belize Zoo’s continued dedication to conservation and its collaborative efforts with its international partners.  The Belize Zoo has maintained a strong partnership with both the Milwaukee County Zoo and the Zoological Society of Milwaukee since the 1980s. Over the past four decades, that relationship has supported a range of initiatives aimed at protecting Belize’s biodiversity, strengthening conservation research, and expanding environmental education.  Through this partnership, the institutions have also focused on capacity building and creating opportunities that benefit both wildlife and local communities in Belize. The Belize Zoo expressed gratitude for the recognition, noting that the award reflects the strength of its international collaborations and its ongoing mission to protect the country’s natural heritage. Officials say they look forward to continuing this partnership and advancing conservation efforts for years to come.
