Senator Patrick Faber is no longer facing criminal prosecution after two charges against him were dismissed in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. Faber, a former Deputy Party Leader and past area representative for the Collet Division, appeared before a Magistrate this week where the charges were formally struck out. The allegations included one count of obstructing a police officer and one count of aggravated assault against Police Constable Dante Smith. The charges arose from an incident reported in the early hours of April 29, 2025. According to police reports, officers were conducting a checkpoint operation near the Bel China Bridge when a white pickup truck allegedly sped past. Police pursued the vehicle, which later stopped on Buttonwood Bay Boulevard. Officers say Faber exited the vehicle and was informed of the reason for the stop. Checks reportedly revealed that the vehicle was not licensed, and Faber was escorted to his residence on Bay Street, where he presented his driver’s license. It is further alleged that during the issuance of traffic violations, Faber began recording the officer at close range, leading to claims that he obstructed police duties and committed an assault. However, the matter did not proceed to trial, and the court dismissed both charges earlier this week. The reasons for the dismissal have not been publicly disclosed. Faber was represented in court by attorney Orson Elrington. With the charges now dismissed, Faber is cleared of all criminal allegations in connection with the incident.
