Senate President Returns From Regional Parliamentary Summit in Canada

President of the Senate, Honorable Carolyn Trench-Sandiford, has returned from Ottawa, Canada, where she participated in the Twenty-Second ParlAmericas Plenary Assembly and the Tenth Gathering of the Open Parliament Network held from May nineteenth to twenty second. According to a release from the Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly, the regional meeting brought together parliamentarians, government officials, academics, and development partners from across the Americas and the Caribbean under the theme, “Parliamentary Leadership for Shared Prosperity: Advancing Trade, Innovation, and Security in a Changing World.” During the assembly, Trench-Sandiford moderated a working session focused on strengthening transparency, public engagement, and parliamentary oversight in trade policy and parliamentary processes. The Senate President has been increasingly active in regional parliamentary diplomacy through organizations such as ParlAmericas and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. Last year, she participated in a parliamentary seminar in Belize aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and parliamentary practice. Love News has also previously reported on Trench-Sandiford’s regional and international engagements, including climate governance discussions ahead of COP30 and parliamentary cooperation initiatives involving Belize’s National Assembly. ParlAmericas is an institution that promotes parliamentary diplomacy and cooperation among legislatures throughout the Americas and the Caribbean, with its international secretariat headquartered in Ottawa, Canada. The visit highlights Belize’s continued work with regional partners on parliamentary and democratic matters. /////
