A village council by-election scheduled for San Joaquin Village in the Corozal District will no longer be necessary after nomination day concluded with only one candidate being nominated for the vacant council seat. According to the Elections and Boundaries Department, the by-election was called following the resignation of Village Council Member Jorge Sima, creating a vacancy on the San Joaquin Village Council. Nomination day was held yesterday, with polling originally scheduled for June 7. However, official results released by the Elections and Boundaries Department show that Ronny Germain Ellis was the sole nominee for the position and was therefore declared elected uncontested. As a result, no vote will be held in the village. The vacancy was declared in accordance with the Village Councils Act and the Village Council Elections Regulations, with the Elections and Boundaries Department overseeing the process. Official records indicate that Ellis has now been elected as a member of the San Joaquin Village Council without the need for a poll.
