Rigoberto Vellos Re-Elected President of Belize Mayors Association

Corozal Town Mayor Rigoberto Vellos has been re-elected to serve as President of the Belize Mayors’ Association, continuing in his role as the head of the body that represents municipalities across the country.  The decision came following a meeting of the association, where members voted to retain the current executive to lead for the 2026–2027 term. Supporting Vellos is Orange Walk Town Mayor Ladrick Sheppard, who continues as Vice President.  Also returning to the executive are Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner as Treasurer, and San Pedro Town Mayor Gualberto Nunez, who retains his post as Secretary.  The Belize Mayors’ Association, established in 1990, serves as a key platform for collaboration among municipal leaders, representing all nine municipalities across Belize. The body works to improve local governance and enhance the quality of life for residents, while advocating on behalf of town and city councils nationwide.  Operating under the guidance of the Ministry of Local Government, the association meets monthly to address shared challenges, exchange ideas, and develop solutions that benefit communities across the country.
