1 week ago 7

Police say their search for missing Belmopan resident Deborah Arthurs remains active, even as investigators begin exploring possible links to other recent criminal activity.  In a press briefing today, Police Staff Officer ASP Stacy Smith confirmed that the investigation has entered a more complex stage, with officers continuing to follow multiple leads while expanding the scope of their inquiries.  Smith told reporters that while extensive ground searches and vehicle checks have already been carried out, the department is now examining whether Arthurs’ disappearance could be connected to the recent shooting of Jevon Clare. ASP Smith emphasized, however, that this line of inquiry remains under investigation and has not yet been confirmed.

Reporter: Is the disappearance of Ms. Arthurs linked in any way to the shooting of Jovan Clare on the George Price Highway two weeks ago ?

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “What I will say is that the disappearance is certainly still a matter that is under investigation as well as the shooting of Mr. Clare. We have heard as the media has as well the indication of them there being some nexus between the two incidents and they are being explored to the fullest possibility that it can be explored.”

Reporter:  What is the current status of the search?

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “In terms of what?”

Reporter: Is she being active in search for ? Are police assisting ? And in what areas are they assisting in family?

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “What I’ve been advised of is that there have been a number of searches that have been conducted both in Belize City or in the Belize District as well as in the Cayo District.”

Reporter: Have you guys able to locate the evidence?

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Yes, we have identified a vehicle that we believe is of interest to the investigation. The concerns are based on the fact that she has not communicated with any family member to our knowledge and we are hopeful that we would be able to bring about some resolution for the family in whatever way that comes out to be.”

A ten-thousand-dollar reward is now being offered for any information that could lead to the location of the 28-year-old mother of one who was last seen on March 27 in Belize City.
