Police Investigate Reported Sexual Assault Between Minors

Authorities in Belize City have launched an investigation into a report of unlawful sexual intercourse involving two minors following a formal complaint made at the Precinct One Crimes Investigation Branch on Tuesday afternoon.  According to police reports, a 15-year-old female minor, accompanied by her mother, visited the precinct to report two separate incidents.  The minor alleged that on Monday, at approximately 2:40 p.m., she visited the residence of a 16-year-old male on Allenby Street. She stated that while they were socialising at the home, they engaged in sexual intercourse. The complainant further alleged that a second encounter occurred on the following morning at the same address.  Upon receiving the report, police activated standard protocols for cases involving minors, specifically, contacting the social services, recording statements in the presence of a guardian, and a medical examination which has certified that the young lady has been “carnally known.”  Police have not yet confirmed if the 16-year-old male has been detained or charged.
