PM Briceño Steps In to Secure Alberto August’s Release

After all was said and done, it was Prime Minister John Briceno who called for the release of August.  Following nearly twenty-eight hours in custody, August was granted police station bail and released Sunday evening.  Alberto reacted to the PM’s intervention.

Reporter: Are you grateful then to the Prime Minister for interceding and facilitating a release? 

Alberto August, Former UDP Chairman: “Yeah, it is like for example the funeral the former Prime Minister told me this several years ago. It is like for example me saying right, if you shoot me in my foot I will thank you for picking me up and taking me to the hospital. You should not have shot me in the foot in the first instance. So whatever intervention on the part of the Prime Minister was as a result of the stupidness of one of his ministers. So you shouldn’t be in a mind that I must say thank you for taking me to the hospital. No sir. I won’t do that. But in terms of the comparison between the prime minister and between Julius  like the chairman rightfully said man you have to call for this man’s resignation because Mira gets a few licks from me every now and again but the Prime Minister is subjected to it constantly right ? Constantly but the Prime Minister his skin is thick you know but this one here like the chairman said man the people with that kind of character should not be wielding the power that the police department. Take for example like Chester you know how you and I have been at Chester. You can tell Chester anything but when you pick up the phone Chester will answer you and Chester would make a far better minister than this thin skinned fellow here.”
