Taking you back to Saturday, Attorney Michael Peyrefitte spoke in detail surrounding the detention of Alberto August at his Santa Elena home in the Cayo District. According to Peyrefitte, police officers arrived at the residence shortly after one o’clock armed with a search warrant with as many as eight officers participating in the operation. August was reportedly not at home when police first arrived but later returned to the residence, where he was informed of the complaint being investigated. Information reaching Love News is that August was allegedly warned he would be forcibly removed from the property if he did not cooperate with officers. Police later confiscated two cellular phones before escorting August to the San Ignacio Police Station, where he remained detained for nearly twenty-eight hours. Peyrefitte says the operation appeared designed to maximize pressure and intimidation.

Michael Peyrefitte, Attorney / Former Police Minister: “While the police were at his home that’s when Alberto called me and asked me for my assistance and when he explained to me the purpose for the police visit, six policemen in his house with a search warrant, looking to confiscate all his phones and all his computers or whatever electronics he may have in the house. They still have his phone. When he told them “Listen, yes I put up the post. You don’t have to search my phone to see if it’s me who really posted what was posted, I posted it.” So then why is there still a need to put him in a.. you don’t put a person in piss house for a post. Well I see people put up on Facebook, Instagram I mean then the jails would be filed. Piss house would be filled because people have said a lot worse than what Alberto August said and they’ve been able to not be bothered. I do not believe that it was just this one post that triggered Oscar Mira and his team. I think it may have been the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. Alberto has been on a sustained campaign of criticism, rightful criticism, justifiable criticism of the minister, of his CEO, of the Commissioner and I figured on that day they were not having a good day and they figured listen to me send police for him, the UDP is divided because Alberto August has issues with his party leader which he has a right to have an issue with and so they figure you know what let’s touch him because there’s no UDP protection for him and so they’re taking advantage of the political situation of the UDP and they just don’t want to be criticized.”
