Orange Walk Motorcyclist Killed in Fatal Dirt Road Crash

Police in the Orange Walk District are investigating a fatal traffic accident that claimed the life of a 21-year-old motorcyclist.  Yesterday, officers responded to the scene sometime after 4:00 p.m. on an unnamed dirt road off the San Estevan Road, where they discovered the motionless body of a Hispanic male lying face down with visible abrasions to the hands, feet, and face.  The deceased has been identified as Zuriel Ernesto Cruz.  ASP Stacy Smith spoke on the investigation.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Upon their arrival they observed and injured and unresponsive male person who was later learned to be Zuriel Cruz, 21 years of age. Also observed on the scene of the accident was a damaged motorcycle and a pickup truck which also showed signs of a damage. Cruz was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead sometime around 5:37 pm. What the ongoing investigation has suggested is that Cruz was onboard a motorcycle on the San Andres road heading towards Orange Walk Town and the pickup truck was traveling in the opposite direction. The suggestion is that the pickup truck made a left turn onto a dirt road which caused a collision between the motorcycle and the pickup truck. The driver of the pickup truck has since been served with a notice of intended prosecution and a urine sample has been obtained from him.”

Cruz was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 5:30 p.m
