The 71st Annual Nurses Conference was held today at the University of Belize Belmopan campus as part of activities celebrating Nurses Week 2026 under the theme, “Our Nurses, Our Future: Empowered Nurses Saves Lives.” Observed from May 6 to 12, Nurses Week recognizes the dedication and invaluable contributions nurses continue to make across Belize’s healthcare system. With approximately 980 licensed nurses in the country, today’s conference brought together healthcare professionals for a general nursing education session. The conference featured a wide range of discussions, from ethics and professionalism in nursing to the introduction of artificial intelligence within healthcare. Following the conference, we caught up with President of the Nurses Association, Renita Pop, who spoke on the importance of empowering nurses year-round and ongoing initiatives aimed at supporting our nurses in Belize.
Just yesterday, some one hundred and fifty nurses were treated to a special breakfast this morning, courtesy of the Radisson Fort George, as part of the recognition efforts.
