No Arrests Yet After Threats and Shooting Target Coast Guard Commander

Nearly three weeks after someone shot at the home of Belize Coast Guard Commander Rear Admiral Gregory Soberanis, police have yet to announce any arrests. The shooting happened about two weeks prior to him being personally threatened by an armed man in the Belize District. Love News has learned that while Soberanis was in New Orleans for an official engagement, his home was fired upon. On May 11, Soberanis and his driver faced an armed man near the park in Burrell Boom Village around eight-thirty in the morning. The man approached Soberanis, took photos of him and his vehicle, and made verbal threats. Both Soberanis and his driver filed official reports at the Hattieville Police Station that same day. Sources say the victims identified the alleged attacker, but no arrests have been made, and police have not confirmed if charges are forthcoming.  So far, neither the Belize Coast Guard nor the Belize Police Department has commented on these incidents or explained the lack of arrests, despite reports that the May 11 suspect has been identified. Love News reached out to Commander Soberanis for his thoughts, but he declined to comment, though he did not deny the incidents. A senior police officer mentioned that the situation arises from a land dispute and that Soberanis’ home was targeted with a BB gun, not live bullets, a report that has been challenged.
