New Duck Run Polyclinic and Hurricane Shelter to Serve Six Rural Communities

Residents of six rural communities in the Cayo District now have improved access to emergency and primary healthcare services following the inauguration of a new polyclinic and hurricane shelter in Duck Run One.  The new facility is expected to directly benefit approximately six thousand residents from Duck Run One, Duck Run Two, Duck Run Three, Billy White, Los Tambos, and Santa Familia. Officials say the polyclinic represents a major improvement for residents of these communities, many of whom previously had to travel to San Ignacio Town to access medical attention and emergency care. With the new facility now operational, residents are expected to receive more timely healthcare services closer to home.  The project was carried out through a partnership involving the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Solid Waste Management, the International Organization for Migration Belize, and the European Union under the “Building Climate Change Resilience and Social Integration of Displaced People in Settlements of Western Belize” initiative.
