Nazarene High Closes Drug Awareness Week with Concert Finale

Belize City Nazarene High School brought its week-long Drug Awareness Week to a close today with a grand finale concert, capping off a series of engaging and educational activities aimed at encouraging students to embrace a drug-free lifestyle.  Held under the theme “Stay alert, protect your mind, protect your future,” the initiative placed strong emphasis on education, prevention, and personal development among young people. Throughout the week, students were exposed to a range of activities designed not only to inform, but to empower them to make positive life choices.  Love News spoke with school counselor Jenecia Sanker, who explained that the week’s activities were intentionally structured to go beyond entertainment and focus on meaningful guidance for students.

Midweek activities featured a presentation by Bella Zabane, alongside a live painting session and informational booths hosted by several key organizations, including UNICEF, Restore Belize, the Community Policing Unit, the Department of Youth Services, and the National Drug Abuse Control Council. These sessions provided students with practical information and resources on substance abuse prevention and healthy living.  Yesterday, the police drama group delivered a powerful skit highlighting the real-life consequences of drug use, reinforcing the week’s central message through storytelling and performance.  The initiative culminated on Friday with a keynote address by Louis Wade  of 501 Genesis Ministry, followed by a concert featuring the Heavenlies Gospel Band. The finale also incorporated a spiritual component, with students participating in altar calls and moments of personal reflection.  Organizers described the week as both impactful and transformative, expressing confidence that the message of drug awareness and positive decision-making will resonate with students well beyond the classroom as they navigate the challenges of adolescence.
