The murder trial of Belize City resident Andre Arthurs officially got underway this week before Justice Nigel Pilgrim in the High Court. Arthurs is accused of the 2025 murder of 33-year-old Mark Usher Junior. The Crown, represented by Prosecutor Kirk Brown, has already called five witnesses to testify as the prosecution presents its case against Arthurs. In addition, nine agreed statements were read into evidence in court without objection from the defense. Prosecutors allege that Arthurs was responsible for the fatal shooting of Usher during an incident that occurred on March 8, 2025, on Fabers Road in Belize City. According to police investigations, Mark Usher Junior had just arrived home and was parking his vehicle when a gunman riding on a bicycle allegedly opened fire on him. Usher sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, despite efforts by doctors, he later succumbed to his injuries. Police say their investigation eventually led to the identification and arrest of Andre Arthurs as the alleged shooter. At the close of testimony, Justice Nigel Pilgrim directed both the prosecution and defense teams to prepare oral submissions in the matter on or before May 30. Arthurs is being represented by attorney Simeon Sampson. The case is scheduled to resume in open court on June 5, at one o’clock in the afternoon.
