Murder Case Against Two Remanded Prisoners Delayed Again

Two men on remand at the Belize Central Prison, awaiting trial for murder, will have to wait a little longer before their case progresses through the courts.  Ulide Allen and Marquis Conorquie, who are jointly charged for the murder of Stanley Jerome Moore and the attempted murder of Joshua Gillett, appeared before Justice Nigel Pilgrim in the High Court yesterday, where their matter was adjourned once again.  The adjournment comes as the court is still awaiting the submission of Case Management Conference, CMC, forms, documents that are critical to moving the case forward to trial. Those filings were initially ordered to be completed as far back as January of this year.  Justice Pilgrim has now set a new deadline, ordering that the outstanding CMC forms be filed on or before April 24. The matter has been adjourned to that same date for further case management.  Allen is being represented by Attorney Leeroy Banner, while Conorquie is represented by Attorney Ronell Gonzalez.  Both men have already pleaded not guilty on indictment in the High Court.  The charges stem from a fatal shooting incident that occurred on June 23, 2024, in Belize City. Police say that shortly after four p.m., Joshua Gillett was driving a BMW vehicle with Stanley Moore as his passenger when two men on a motorcycle pulled alongside the vehicle and opened fire.  Moore, a 32-year-old labourer, was fatally wounded and later found in the vehicle at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital parking lot. Gillett, a 27-year-old fisherman, survived the attack but sustained gunshot injuries.  Conorquie was first arraigned shortly after the incident, while Allen was later charged following several weeks on the run before turning himself in to police in August of 2024.  With the case still in its pretrial phase, yesterday’s adjournment means that both men remain on remand as the court continues to await compliance with procedural requirements.
