Missing $21K May Never Have Reached Police Exhibit Room, Audit Reveals

New details have emerged in the case involving the twenty-one thousand dollars reported missing within the Belize Police Department, as internal investigators now believe the money may never have officially made it into the Queen Street Police Station’s exhibit room.  When Love News first reported on the matter yesterday, preliminary information suggested that the funds had disappeared from the exhibit room attached to the Crimes Investigation Branch at the Queen Street Police Station. However, further checks carried out as part of the ongoing nationwide police audit have reportedly revealed that the cash was never formally deposited into the Belize City exhibit room after it was seized in connection with a 2023 criminal investigation.  Love News understands that investigators have since traced the discrepancy back to the CIB office in Belize City, where the money is now believed to have gone missing shortly after it was confiscated in 2023. Sources indicate that while the funds were expected to be logged and transferred into the exhibit room for safekeeping, auditors found no official record confirming that the deposit was ever completed.  The internal investigation has reportedly raised serious concerns about evidence-handling procedures and accountability within the department, particularly surrounding the chain of custody for seized cash and exhibits. Investigators are now attempting to determine who last had possession of the money and whether established protocols were deliberately bypassed.  The discovery was made during the first comprehensive nationwide audit ordered by Commissioner of Police Richard Rosado since assuming office last year.  It is unclear if any audits of each formation have ever been conducted or the frequency of any audits.
