Minor remanded to Wagner’s Facility for the murder of Salama Raquel Orellana Funes

Tonight, a 16-year-old is on remand at the Wagner’s Facility on the compound of the Belize Central Prison, following his arraignment this morning at the Belize City Family Court. The minor is accused of last Thursday’s killing of 32-year-old Salama Raquel Orellano Funes. In addition to that, he is also being charged with 2 counts of attempted murder after also injuring Shayanta Willians and Cordova Neal at Da Buzz Restaurant and Bar on the Philip Goldson Highway.  Earlier today, ASP Stacy Smith, updated the media on additional findings in the investigation since the last official update on Friday.

ACP Stacy Smith, Belize Police Department:“In relation to the murder of Salma Raquel Funez and the attempted murder of Shianta Williams and Cordova Neal, which occurred on Thursday, 7 May, 2026, police have formally arrested and charged a 16-year-old Belizean caretaker of the Belize district for the crime of murder and two counts of attempted murder. The information so far has not as definitive for me to say that there was mutual acknowledgment of relationship between the two parties however that is an aspect that is being reviewed.”

The minor was taken before the Family Court, where he was formally arraigned and subsequently remanded into custody. He is to return to court on June 30./
