Medical Community Mourns Dr. Bonilla as Calls for Justice Grow

The murder of Dr. Naun Bonilla has sent waves of grief and outrage throughout Belize’s medical community, with both the Belize Medical and Dental Association and the Ministry of Health and Wellness publicly condemning the brazen killing and calling for justice.  In a statement issued this afternoon, the Belize Medical and Dental Association described Dr. Bonilla’s death as a tremendous loss not only to his family and patients, but to the nation as a whole. The association noted that Dr. Bonilla dedicated his life to serving others, caring for countless patients and supporting families during difficult moments.  The BMDA strongly condemned what it called a “senseless act of violence” and joined calls for a thorough, transparent, and timely investigation into the murder. The association further stressed that no society should become accustomed to violence and urged authorities to ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the law.  Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Wellness also expressed profound sorrow over the killing, describing Dr. Bonilla as a dedicated medical professional and patriot whose years of service at the Western Regional Hospital touched the lives of countless Belizeans.  According to the ministry, Dr. Bonilla became widely respected for his compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to patient care throughout his medical career. Officials added that Belize has lost a man who devoted his life to the wellbeing of others and to national service.  The Ministry extended condolences to Dr. Bonilla’s family, friends, colleagues, and patients, stating that his legacy of service and humanity will continue to inspire future generations.
