Police are investigating a shooting incident along the George Price Highway that has left one man hospitalized in critical condition. Reports are that on Wednesday night, shortly before eight o’clock, authorities responded to information of shots fired in the area between miles 33 and 34, near St. Matthews Village. Upon arrival, officers discovered a white Chevrolet Equinox with no license plates, found some two hundred yards off the highway in nearby bushes. The vehicle bore multiple apparent bullet holes. Police say the injured man has been identified as Jevon Clare, a thirty-one-year-old Belizean of Iguana Street, Belize City.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Police are investigating a shooting incident which resulted in the injury of 31-year-old Javan Clare of Belize City. The investigation comments on Wednesday, 25th March, 2026, at about 8 o’clock p.m., when police responded to reports of shots being fired in the vicinity of Mile 33 along the George Price Highway. Police responded to that report where they observed a Chevy Equinox which was some 200 yards off the highway and it exhibited apparent bullet holes. What has been gathered so far in the course of this ongoing investigation is that Clare was driving from the direction of Belmopan City towards Belize City where upon reaching mile 32 the vehicle he was traveling in was fired upon by an unknown male person who was on board another vehicle. Police investigation into this matter continues.”
Police Staff Officer ASP Stacy Smith, says investigators are following several leads as they work to determine the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible.
