LPG Prices Going Up Across Belize Starting Wednesday

The government has announced an increase in the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, commonly known as LPG, with new controlled rates set to take effect midweek.  In a release issued today, the Supplies Control Unit within the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries says that effective tomorrow, April 15, new pricing structures will come into force for both wholesale and retail LPG sales across the country.  According to the updated schedule, the import wholesale price for LPG will now stand at four dollars and fifty-nine cents per gallon across all districts. At the retail level, consumers in urban areas, including Belize City, Belmopan, San Ignacio, and Dangriga, will pay one dollar and forty-two cents per pound, or six dollars and nineteen cents per gallon. Meanwhile, residents in rural communities will see slightly higher costs, with LPG set at one dollar and forty-four cents per pound, or six dollars and twenty-nine cents per gallon.  Officials say the adjustment represents an increase of seventeen cents per gallon for the current shipment, driven primarily by a rise in acquisition costs on the international market. The Ministry notes that the pricing structure also reflects a transition to sales by volume at both the wholesale and retail levels, in keeping with national standards for LPG mixtures.
