Police have formally charged one man in connection with the shooting of Lionel Nigel Logan, which occurred over the weekend in Ladyville, Belize District. Reports are that the incident took place on Saturday, April 11, leaving Logan with gunshot injuries. Following investigations, authorities have moved swiftly in bringing charges against a suspect. According to police, 30-year-old Akeem Ferguson of Yellow Tail Street, Ladyville, has been formally arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, Use of Deadly Means of Harm, and Dangerous Harm. Police say the charges stem directly from evidence gathered in relation to the shooting. ASP Stacy Smith provided preliminaries, with the arrest made shortly after today’s press brief.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “The investigation commenced on Saturday 11th of April 2026 at approximately 9:06 pm when officers attached to the Ladyville formation were alerted to the sounds of shots being fired in the vicinity of Perez Road in that village. The officers responded where they met an injured Lionel Logan who suffered and apparent gunshot injury. What we have learned so far is the Logan was walking in an off road area near Perez Road when he was accosted by two male persons one of whom brandished a firearm and fired a shot which wounded him. Logan is hospitalized in a critical condition and police have since detained one person and are seeking another in connection with the ongoing investigation. No motive has been established thus far in this incident.”
