Kris Rosado to Be Arraigned on Reduced Charge

Businessman Kris Rosado is expected to return to the High Court on June 9, where he will be formally arraigned and asked to enter a plea in connection with the fatal traffic incident that claimed the life of Police Constable Arsenio Cus. Rosado made his first appearance before the High Court yesterday before Justice Derick Sylvester. During the brief hearing, the court informed Rosado that the charge against him has now been reduced from manslaughter by negligence to causing death by careless conduct.  The change was made on indictment on April 8, two months after Rosado’s case was committed to stand trial in the High Court following a Preliminary Inquiry in the Magistrate’s Court.  Rosado, who owns the establishment Thirsty Thursday in Belize City, appeared unrepresented in court but informed the judge that he is being represented by attorney Doctor Lynden Jones. Justice Sylvester explained the court process to Rosado and advised that his attorney must be present for the arraignment hearing, where a plea will be taken for the first time.  Rosado’s bail of six thousand dollars plus two sureties of three thousand dollars each was extended until his next court appearance.  The matter stems from a fatal traffic incident that occurred on July 28, 2025, between miles six and seven on the Philip Goldson Highway. According to police reports, PC Cus was travelling on a motorcycle from Ladyville toward Belize City when a vehicle allegedly entered his lane and collided with him. Cus sustained severe injuries and later died.  Investigators subsequently detained Rosado at his Ladyville residence, where police reportedly discovered a damaged Honda Ridgeline pickup truck believed to have been involved in the collision.  Police say the Director of Public Prosecutions later directed that Rosado be charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, driving without due care and attention, failure to stop and render aid, and failure to report an accident.  However, with the indictment now amended, the High Court proceedings will move forward on the single charge of causing death by careless conduct. The direction of the case is expected to become clearer following Rosado’s arraignment on June 9.
