Interdicted police officer, 29-year-old, Dexter Diego is back behind bars tonight after being slapped a new set of allegations of sexual violence involving a minor. Despite already being out on bail for similar offenses dating back to 2023, Diego appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this afternoon to face four counts of rape of a child. Diego, originally from Dangriga, appeared before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison around 2:30 p.m. The court heard four indictable charges, specifically, three counts of rape allegedly occurring in December 2024, when the victim was just 10 years and 2 months old; one count of rape allegedly occurring in 2025, when the victim was 11 years and 7 months old. Since the charges fall under Section 16 of the Crime Control and Criminal Justice Act, the Magistrate’s hands were tied regarding the issue of bail. Diego, who was unrepresented during the proceedings, was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison. He is scheduled to return to court on July 8. Love News understands that this second victim confided in her mother that the officer had unlawful sexual intercourse on four occasions, with the last time being in 2025 when she was ten years old. The child was taken to a medical facility, accompanied by her mother and a social worker. An examination confirmed that the child has been carnally known. This is not Diego’s first encounter with the justice system regarding the exploitation of minors. His legal history paints a disturbing picture of repeated offenses while serving as a member of the police department. On August 11, 2023, Diego was first arraigned on five counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old minor, and a year later, on August 29, 2024, the case was committed to stand trial in the High Court. A police constable is back in the spotlight due to a second case of rape.
