Indian Creek Residents Push for Review of Village Council Leadership

A press release with no signature attached is indicating that several residents of Indian Creek Village in the Toledo District are organizing a petition aimed at triggering a formal review of the current Village Council leadership, amid growing dissatisfaction over how the village is being managed.  According to the release issued yesterday, residents say the petition is being driven by concerns over governance, transparency, accountability, and what they describe as increasing division within the community under the present administration.  The petition specifically calls for scrutiny of how house lots are being allocated within the village, concerns over the involvement of Village Council leaders in matters related to the local school, and allegations that recent decisions by the council are not reflecting the interests of the wider community.  Residents also say tensions within the village became more pronounced following the kidnapping and torture of Alcalde Marcos Canti. The release states that many villagers had hoped the incident would lead to greater unity and healing, but instead, disagreements surrounding village leadership and governance have continued.  Through the petition, residents are demanding that a special Village Council meeting be convened so that the concerns can be openly discussed. They are also calling for the relevant authorities to review the actions of the council and determine whether appropriate accountability measures under the Village Councils Act should be considered.
