Hattieville Mechanic Freed After Attempted Murder Case Dropped

A Hattieville mechanic was freed today from a very serious charge after the prosecution discontinued an attempted murder case in the High Court.  35-year-old Dorian Garnett walked free after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions entered a nolle prosequi, effectively ending the case against him.  Garnett had been accused of stabbing his friend, Mark Usher, during an incident on November 1, 2024, in the Conch Shell Bay area.  When the matter came up before Justice Derick Sylvester, however, Crown Counsel Maria Nembhard-Santana informed the court that the prosecution would no longer be proceeding with the case.  The decision followed the Crown’s inability to secure the cooperation of the virtual complainant, who reportedly no longer wished to pursue the matter.  Attorney for Garnett, Oscar Selgado, explained that the case could not move forward without the participation of the alleged victim, ultimately forcing the prosecution to discontinue proceedings.  Outside the courtroom, Garnett expressed relief at the outcome, maintaining that the allegations against him were fabricated. He said that despite the incident, he and Usher have remained friends and even spoke earlier today, putting the matter behind them.  Garnett had been on bail since the incident and had consistently maintained his innocence after pleading not guilty when the charge was first brought before the High Court.  His attorney also indicated that the defense was confident heading into trial, noting that the case file lacked a medical report, with only a medico-legal form submitted months after the incident.  With the charge now formally withdrawn, Garnett leaves the court a free man after more than a year with the attempted murder allegation hanging over him.
