Happy Hearts Funday Brings Joy to 255 Children at Rendezvous Caye

Some two hundred and fifty-five children from across Belize were treated to a day of joy, laughter, and unforgettable experiences during the Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs’ “Happy Hearts Funday” held at Rendezvous Caye.  The initiative, organized through the Department of Human Services, brought together children from residential care homes and government-operated facilities for a full day of recreation and engagement in a safe and supportive environment. Supporting the outing were one hundred and thirty caregivers, social workers, and staff who ensured the children were well cared for throughout the day.  Participants included children from AIM Belize, Hope Haven, Hopewell Children’s Home, Liberty Children’s Home, Marla’s House of Hope, and Laugh Out Loud Children’s Home, along with residents from Coral Grove, Mile Fourteen, and the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Centre.  The island excursion featured a wide range of activities designed to promote fun and social interaction, including swimming, kite flying, volleyball, and interactive games. Children also enjoyed entertainment such as a water slide, bouncy house, cotton candy, popcorn, and snow cones, along with friendly competitions and prize giveaways.  Minister of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs, Thea Garcia-Ramirez, was on hand for the event, where she delivered brief remarks and spent the day engaging with the children and caregivers, reinforcing the ministry’s commitment to inclusion, care, and positive development for children in state and residential care.  The Belize Coast Guard and the Fisheries Department also played a key role in ensuring the success of the event, providing support for transportation and safety throughout the excursion.  The ministry says initiatives like the Happy Hearts Funday reflect its ongoing dedication to the well-being, happiness, and holistic development of Belize’s children, particularly those in vulnerable circumstances.
