Police are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a fifteen-year-old student in Gardenia Village last night and left another teenager hospitalized. Authorities say that shortly after 8:30 p.m. on May thirty-first, officers responded to reports of gunfire on an unnamed street in Gardenia Village at Mile Twenty-Three on the Philip Goldson Highway. Upon arrival, police discovered several expended shells and blood at the scene. Investigators report that fifteen-year-old Rackeem Raheem Armstrong and eighteen-year-old Justin Young, both Belizean students of Gardenia Village, were socializing in the area when a male person of Creole descent allegedly approached and opened fire in their direction, discharging multiple shots. Both victims were transported for medical treatment. Armstrong later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital at approximately 9:03 p.m. Young remains hospitalized in stable condition. Police have since detained one suspect in connection with the shooting. Preliminary investigations indicate that the motive for the attack may be linked to a dispute over a motorcycle.
