Gabrielle Arnold has etched her name into the history books of Belizean cycling after breaking a long-standing record in the thirty-fifth Annual PUMA Women’s Cross Country Cycling Classic held yesterday from San Ignacio to Belize City. Arnold, competing in the Women’s Elite category and representing Bermuda as an unattached rider, delivered a record-breaking ride in the prestigious event, surpassing a mark that had stood for nineteen years. Information provided at the finish indicated that the previous record was three hours, seven minutes and twenty-nine seconds, while the new record was lowered to three hours, three minutes and fifteen seconds. The event, organized by the Cycling Federation of Belize, attracted a field of riders from Belize and the wider region, including competitors from Mexico and Bermuda. The Women’s Cross Country Cycling Classic remains one of the marquee events on the local sporting calendar, showcasing elite and junior female talent over the grueling San Ignacio to Belize City route. The thirty-fifth edition of the race also featured riders in the Women’s Masters and Junior categories, with prizes being awarded across the various divisions.
