Police have made a fourth arrest over the Easter weekend in connection with the discovery of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, this time at the Castleton Racetrack on Easter Monday. Authorities report that the latest incident involved a Cotton Tree villager who was found in possession of illegal items during operations conducted at the popular race day event. The individual has since been identified as Ashton Gillett, who is now facing charges relating to the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. ASP Stacy Smith confirmed the arrest and provided details on the incident.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Police have formally arrested and charged 29-year-old Ashton Gillett of Cotton Tree Village Cayo District for the offense of kept fire arm without a gun license and kept ammunition without a gun license. The arresting officer reported that whilst he was on duty at the Castleton track on Monday 6 April around 1:30 p.m., his attention was drawn to a male person who arose his suspicion. Upon conducting a search of a backpack that was being carried by the male person, the officer discovered a 9mm pistol with a magazine containing 8 live rounds of 9mm ammunition.”
Gillett is expected to be arraigned before the court.
