A small group of protestors gathered today in front of Belize Electricity Limited, BEL, along the Philip Goldson Highway, as tensions continue to build over outstanding severance payments owed to former employees. The demonstration, though modest in size, is meant to draw attention to the ongoing demands of the Belize Energy Workers for Justice, who say they are still awaiting compensation following their separation from the company. The protestors, carried placards and voiced their concerns, calling on BEL to settle what they describe as long-overdue payments. Traffic in the area remained flowing, with no major disruptions reported, but the presence of protestors had attracted the attention of passersby. Emily Turner, representing the Belize Communications Workers for Justice, told Love News that their group is standing in solidarity with the former BEL workers.
Turner emphasized that the demonstration is peaceful and aimed at raising awareness rather than causing disruption. The Belize Energy Workers for Justice have maintained that they are prepared to continue their advocacy until the matter is resolved./
