Dr. Naum Bonilla Laid to Rest as Police Continue Murder Investigation

Family members, friends, and residents gathered this afternoon to bid farewell to thirty-six-year-old Dr. Naum Bonilla, who was laid to rest in Valley of Peace, Cayo District.  Dr. Bonilla, a well-known physician, was gunned down last Friday morning in Belmopan while reportedly taking his young daughter to school. Minister of Home Affairs, Oscar Mira, says investigators are actively reviewing surveillance footage from the area and recording statements as police work to determine a motive and identify those responsible.

Oscar Mira, Minister of Home Affairs: “I offer my condolences to the family. A doctor who has given his life, who gave his life serving the community in Belmopan. Very unfortunate. I want to say to the residents of Belmopan that we are going to do everything possible to solve this murder. We do have technology in place. We do have cameras around that we are reviewing. The investigators have been reviewing everything that happened. Very unfortunate. This is not what we want. We want to make sure that we investigate fully and that we bring whoever it is that we need to bring. And as I said before, you know, it’s a great loss for our community. It’s a great loss for the country. Someone who dedicated his life to helping others.”

Police have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the murder as the investigation remains ongoing./
