Couple Remanded After Police Find Drugs Gun and Ammunition in Belize City Home


A couple is tonight behind bars after police discovered drugs, a firearm, and ammunition inside their Belize City home.  Twenty-nine-year-old Tamika Jenna Smith, a Ranger Security Guard, and her boyfriend, thirty-one-year-old Michael Shawn Whylie, an LIU worker, both of number eleven Handyside Street in Belize City, were arrested and charged following a search of their residence by officers of the Anti-Narcotics Unit. During the search, police recovered seventeen pounds of marijuana, a black twenty-two caliber revolver with an unknown serial number, and three live twenty-two caliber rounds of ammunition. The couple appeared this week before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison where they were jointly read three charges possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, keeping a firearm without a gun license, and keeping ammunition without a gun license. Both Smith and Whylie, who appeared unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to all three charges. Due to the nature of the offenses, bail was denied and the couple was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until May 12.
