Corozal Motorcyclist Killed in Late-Night Collision With BMW

Police in Corozal are investigating a fatal traffic incident that claimed the life of a twenty-one-year-old motorcyclist late Friday night.  According to reports, the incident occurred shortly before eleven o’clock on May 8 along First Avenue in front of the Round House establishment in Corozal Town. Responding officers arrived at the scene and observed a black Meilun motorcycle and a white BMW car that had been involved in a collision. A Hispanic male was also discovered lying motionless in nearby bushes.  Investigations revealed that the white BMW, driven by seventeen-year-old Darrell Matura, a mechanic of Seventh Avenue, Corozal Town, had reportedly been travelling from the direction of Sunset Restaurant toward the Round House when the collision occurred. The motorcycle, driven by twenty-one-year-old Evan Martinez, a laborer of Ranchito Village, was travelling in the opposite direction toward Sunset Restaurant at the time.  Police say the impact caused Martinez to be thrown from the motorcycle into nearby bushes on the side of the street. He was transported to the Corozal Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival shortly after midnight on Saturday morning.  Police have collected a urine sample from the driver of the BMW and served him with a Notice of Intended Prosecution. The motorcycle has since been impounded pending a mechanical inspection, while arrangements are being made for the BMW to also undergo inspection.E
