Twenty-year-old Shenyon Levi Barrow broke his silence in court this week, offering an apology to the family of the man he killed, moments after an emotional and heart-wrenching victim impact statement from the mother of Floyd McFadzean. Barrow, who was just eighteen at the time of the offense, appeared before Justice Derick Sylvester in the High Court yesterday for a mitigation hearing ahead of sentencing. The young man is awaiting judgment for the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Floyd McFadzean, which occurred in the early hours of March 22, 2025, along Cemetery Road in Belize City. Before the court adjourned, McFadzean’s mother delivered one of the most powerful moments of the proceedings. Through tears, she recounted the devastating impact her son’s death has had on her family, describing the trauma of receiving the call that no parent ever wants to hear and the haunting memory of seeing her son’s lifeless body. She told the court that her son was robbed of a future, one that would have included fatherhood, and family milestones. Despite her anguish, she told the court she holds no resentment. Moments later, Barrow addressed the family directly. In a brief statement, he expressed remorse and asked for forgiveness for his actions. Following submissions from both the Crown and the defense, led by attorney Michael Peyreffitte, Justice Sylvester indicated that he will reserve his decision on sentencing. Barrow is expected to return to court on June 2, when a sentence is to be handed down. The fatal shooting occurred shortly after midnight, when McFadzean was driving along Cemetery Road with three other men. Police say their vehicle came under heavy gunfire from two individuals on a motorcycle. McFadzean lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into a drain. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while three others sustained gunshot injuries.
