Belize Police Department destroys drugs worth over $4 million in major operation

The Belize Police Department carried out a major drug destruction operation this morning disposing of a significant cache of narcotics with an estimated street value of more than four million Belize dollars.  The operation took place at the Belize Waste Control compound, which was bustling with police activity throughout the morning. The drugs were transferred from the exhibit room at the police station to the compound under heavy security before being destroyed.

Superintendent Hector Rodriguez, Officer Commanding the National Prosecution Branch, oversaw the operation.

Members of the forensic team were also on site, conducting random testing of the drugs, a mandatory requirement in the destruction process. The narcotics disposed of ranged from cocaine to cannabis and even cannabis-infused candies.

For a drug destruction of this scale to be carried out, several key personnel are required to be present, including the officer in charge, the exhibit keeper, a sitting magistrate, a national forensic officer, media representatives, and GI3 officers for security.

In total, the drugs destroyed this morning carry an estimated street value of more than four million Belize dollars, a significant haul permanently removed from the streets.
