Belize Embassy Urges Travelers to Mexico to Stay Alert Amid Safety Concerns

Belizeans travelling to Mexico over the Easter holiday are being urged to remain vigilant, as the Embassy of Belize in Mexico ramps up efforts to promote safety and awareness among nationals abroad.  In an advisory issued ahead of the busy travel period, the Embassy is encouraging Belizeans to take simple but important precautions to protect themselves while in Mexico. These include ensuring that they maintain a reliable means of communication with family members, and avoiding answering calls from unknown numbers, which could potentially be linked to scams or attempts to extort.  Travellers are also being reminded to report any incidents involving extortion, bribery, or other illegal activities by calling 089, a dedicated reporting line in Mexico.  The Embassy further advises Belizeans to travel with the contact information for the Embassy in Mexico City, as well as the nearest Belizean consulate, including locations in Chetumal, Veracruz, Merida, and Monterrey. Having this information readily available can prove critical in the event of an emergency or if assistance is needed while abroad.
