Belize City Man Charged After Police Seize Gun and Suspected Drugs

Police in Belize City continue to intensify operations targeting illegal firearms and narcotics following the arrest and charging of an Ebony Street resident earlier this week.  Authorities say members of the Special Patrol Unit, SPU, conducted operations in the area when they reportedly encountered Kendale Carcamo. During the search, officers allegedly discovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in his possession. Police say Carcamo was also found with a quantity of suspected drugs at the time of the operation.  Carcamo was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the firearm, ammunition, and drug offenses as investigations continue.  ASP Stacy Smith provided details on the arrest.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Police have formally arrested and charged 31 year old Kendale Carcamo of Ebony Street, Belize City for the offense of kept file arm without a gun license, kept ammunition without a gun license, and possession of controlled drug. These charges follow an operation carried out by officers attached to the Special Patrol Unit, SPU, at the residence of Carcamo. The arresting officer reported that whilst conducting a search on the person of Carcamo a black in color, 9 millimeter Beretta brand pistol fell from his waist and this firearm when inspected was observed to contain 14 live rounds of 9 millimeter ammunition. A further search of the person of Carcamo resulted in the discovery of a zinc black bag which contained another little plastic with suspected cocaine weighing a total of 0.8 grams.”

Meanwhile, police say a separate operation led to the arrest of another Belize City resident for similar offenses. Authorities report that Jermaine Anderson of the Conch Shell Bay area was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during police operations. He too was detained and later formally charged.  ASP Stacy Smith also spoke on Anderson’s arrest.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Police have formally arrested and charged 25-year-old Germain Anderson of West Colette Canal, the Conch Shell Bay Area of Belize City, for the offense of kept firearm without a gun license. This arrest follows an operation conducted by a team of special patrol unit personnel at the residence of Anderson which led to the discovery of a black in color Austria brand 9 millimeter pistol.”
