Belize Attends Regional Health Forum in Guyana

Belize’s Minister of Health and Wellness, Kevin Bernard, recently participated in a high-level health forum in Guyana.  Bernard was in the Guyana representing Belize at the CARPHA Annual Health Research Conference, where he joined regional leaders in discussions focused on research, innovation, and the future of public health across the Caribbean.  The conference, now in its 70th year, also featured a Ministerial Panel Discussion examining how consultation and collaboration are critical to strengthening regional health systems. Among those on the panel was Terrence Drew, alongside several Caribbean Ministers of Health.  Minister Bernard says Belize’s inclusion in forums of this level is critical, noting that it ensures the country remains engaged in shaping regional health policy and benefiting from shared expertise.

While in Guyana, the Minister also paid a visit to the Belize High Commission, where he met with High Commissioner Gale Miller Garnett. Discussions there focused on continued support for Belizean medical professionals studying and specializing in Guyana, as well as broader cooperation in healthcare development.  Bernard also used the opportunity to engage directly with his counterparts in Guyana, exploring avenues for deeper collaboration in medical education, particularly between institutions in both countries.

The 70th Annual Health Research Conference of CARPHA was held in the latter part of April./
