Belize and Mexico Strengthen Cross-Border Vaccine Push

Belize and Mexico are strengthening their cross-border public health partnership, with a renewed focus on expanding immunization coverage and protecting vulnerable populations along shared border communities.  The commitment was reaffirmed during a Binational Vaccination Week in the Americas ceremony held yesterday, as part of the 2026 regional initiative led in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization. This year’s observance was being held under the theme, “Your decision makes a difference: Immunization for all.” Health representatives from both countries emphasized the critical role vaccines play in preventing the spread of diseases such as measles, polio, and whooping cough, particularly in light of ongoing regional health concerns and increased population movement across borders.  During the ceremony, Belizean and Mexican officials pledged to deepen cooperation in several key areas, including increasing routine and childhood vaccination rates, strengthening disease surveillance systems, and improving access to immunization services in underserved and mobile communities.  Vaccination Week in the Americas runs from April 29 to May 2, mobilizing countries across the hemisphere to promote the life-saving benefits of vaccines.
