World Pediatrics Marks 25 Years of Pediatric Care in Belize

An organization that has helped transform pediatric healthcare in northern Belize is celebrating a major milestone. World Pediatrics recently marked twenty-five years of service in Belize, highlighting the impact of its partnership with the Corozal Community Hospital.  The commemorative event was led by Country Director Milagro Garel, who reflected on the organization’s achievements since the program began operating in Belize in 2001. The celebratory ceremony recognized several staff members whose dedication has played a key role in advancing the organization’s mission to provide specialized medical care for children.

Three long-serving team members were honored for their years of outstanding service, while one staff member received a special farewell tribute for their longstanding commitment to both the organization and the communities it serves.  Love News spoke with lead surgeon Tim Baklawski, who explained that he has been working alongside the Corozal Community Hospital since 1999, helping to provide life-changing surgical care for children in Belize.

The celebration also included testimony from a past patient, Sergio Gonzalez, who shared his personal experience receiving care through the program and noted that he now volunteers with the organization each year as a way of giving back.

Officials say the twenty-five-year milestone reflects the organization’s lasting impact on pediatric healthcare in Belize, emphasizing a continued commitment to transforming lives while fostering a culture of care, compassion, and community engagement.  Looking ahead, representatives of World Pediatrics say the organization remains focused on expanding its programs and continuing to support vulnerable children and families across Belize and the wider region.
