Entrepreneurs, policymakers, and business leaders gathered in Belize City for the Women’s Empowerment Forum 2026, aimed at expanding opportunities for women in business and leadership. The event, held at the Belize City Civic Center, was organized under the theme “From Survival to Scale: Financing Women for Growth.” It brought together women entrepreneurs, financial sector representatives, and policymakers to discuss improving access to financing and supporting the growth of women-owned businesses. The forum included a series of panel discussions addressing key challenges and opportunities in the sector. The first panel focused on strategies for helping women transition from informal business activities to sustainable and influential enterprises. Love News spoke with the Director General of the Belize Tax Services Department, Michelle Longsworth, who was one of the panelists from the first discussion.
A second panel at the Women’s Empowerment Forum 2026 examined the barriers that continue to limit women’s access to financing. Discussions highlighted practical strategies and existing programs aimed at closing these gaps. Financial sector representatives and business owners shared their experiences, offering insights into how support systems can be strengthened to better serve women entrepreneurs and promote business growth. A member of this panel was the owner of The Ambassador’s Terrace, Deborah Seawell Erskine who spoke with Love News.
Additional discussions at the Forum addressed workplace challenges affecting women, including the “silent career stage,” with a focus on menopause, health, and professional development. A fourth panel examined issues of sexual harassment and the importance of psychological safety in the workplace. The event was hosted by Samantha Ramirez, while opening remarks were delivered by Noriko Gamero of the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Guest speaker remarks were presented by Narda Garcia from the Office of the Prime Minister, with responsibility for the Ministry of Investment and Civil Aviation. The forum also provided networking opportunities for participants. Organizers stated that the forum aims to equip women with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to expand their businesses, strengthen leadership roles, and contribute to Belize’s economic development.
