Tower Hill Village Council Seats Filled Without Election

The Tower Hill Village Council has filled two vacant seats without a vote after both nominated candidates were returned unopposed.  The vacancies arose following the resignations of council members Adrian Ake and Omar Ake, prompting the Elections and Boundaries Department to announce a by-election for the Orange Walk village in accordance with the Village Council Act and its regulations.  Nomination Day was held on June 28 at the Tower Hill Community Centre. At the close of nominations, Marcos Fernando Roberts and Fidencio Valdemar Vellos were the only candidates nominated for the two available positions. As a result, both men were declared elected unopposed, making a poll unnecessary.  The Elections and Boundaries Department had initially scheduled Election Day for July 5 if the seats had been contested. However, with no opposing candidates entering the race, the by-election was decided on Nomination Day, restoring the Tower Hill Village Council to its full complement of members.
