Three Men Killed in Mahogany Street Motorcycle Crash

A Sunday morning collision on Mahogany Street has left three men dead. The victims are thirty-eight-year-old motorcycle repairman Allan “Biggs” Arnold, twenty-eight-year-old pupusa vendor Darwin Monroy and twenty-two-year-old construction worker Theodore Swaso.

Police responded to the intersection of Mahogany and Tibruce Streets at approximately twelve twenty-six Sunday morning, where they found two extensively damaged motorcycles, blood and debris scattered across the roadway.  A preliminary investigation indicates that Arnold was travelling west along Mahogany Street with a group of riders from the Hell Boys Motorcycle Club when his motorcycle collided head-on with another motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction. That motorcycle was being driven by Monroy, while Swaso was riding as his passenger.  All three men were thrown onto the pavement and sustained serious injuries. They were transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital by people in the area. Arnold was pronounced dead at twelve forty-three that morning, while Swaso was pronounced dead at one-oh-eight. Monroy was placed on life support but later died at four twenty-two Sunday morning.

For Swaso’s girlfriend, Shevany Leslie, the tragedy has her battling with a sudden and unexpected loss. She spoke with Love News about Theodore, their relationship and the painful reality of losing him.

Shevany Leslie, Commonlaw Partner of Theodore Swazo: “A lot of stories, a lot of different stories to be honest. One whereby the young man crashed into them, the next one whereby a car crashed into them and so I really don’t know what is the truth. All I know is that he passed away. I have a one year old with him. It’s really hard for me to deal with it knowing that the only piece of him that is left is my baby. Every time she smiles I see his face. Every time she asks “Where’s dada.” what am I to do? I don’t know how to do it. We do need help. Any kind of help would be really appreciated right now. We’re trying hard for this especially since all of us are grieving we’re trying to take it in. I’m in disbelief. I’m still looking to see if I will get to see him but how do I tell a one year old when she gets older?”

The families of all three victims are now grieving, while police work to determine precisely what caused the two motorcycles to collide. Assistant Commissioner of Police Stacy Smith provided Love News with further details on what investigators have established so far.

ASP Stacy Smith, Police Public Relations Officer: “On Sunday, August 9, 2026, at approximately 12:26 a.m. police responded to reports of a traffic accident on Mahogany Street, Belize City involving two motorcycles. The investigating officers reported that upon their arrival they observed two extensively damaged motorcycles and they were advised that three gravely injured persons were rushed to the hospital for medical attention. The identities of those individuals were learned to be Darwin Monroy, Allan, Arnold and Thedoreo Swazo, all of Belize City. What has been established is that Arnold was proceeding on a motorcycle from an east to west direction and also traveling on a motorcycle in opposite direction, where Darwin, Monroy, along with Swazo as his pillion rider. Upon reaching near the intersection of Mahogany Street and Tibruce Street a collision occurred with both motorcycles resulting in the grave injury and the subsequent death of the three individuals. One motorcycle helmet was recovered from the scene.”
