Thirty-seven-year-old, Stanley Flowers has been committed to stand trial at the High Court on a charge of attempted murder and five other related charges, following the conclusion of his Preliminary Inquiry (PI) today. Flowers was charged in connection with a shooting incident at Lucky Strike, Belize District, in which he allegedly shot a police officer before opening fire on other officers who responded to the scene. He spent nearly a year on remand without bail before the High Court, presided over by Justice Antoinette Moore, granted him bail. However, before Flowers could act on that bail, his Preliminary Inquiry was called up and swiftly concluded. Per directives from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), a gun-related charge against Flowers will be tried summarily, while the remaining charges, including attempted murder will proceed before the High Court. This stems back to 2025, where a Police corporal was shot and seriously injured in the early hours of Monday March 31, after a confrontation outside a nightclub on the Philip Goldson Highway escalated into a dramatic high-speed chase that ended with the suspect being knocked off his motorcycle by police.
