San Pedro Fisherman Remanded on Triple Murder Charges

A 22-year-old San Pedro fisherman has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison after being arraigned this evening on three counts of murder in connection with a gruesome triple homicide that shook the island last Thursday. Shelby Jonathan Hernandez, of San Pedrito Area, San Pedro Town, appeared before the San Pedro Magistrates Court this evening, unrepresented, where he was read three counts of murder. Due to the serious nature of the offenses, no bail was granted and Hernandez was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until May 27. The charges stem from the March 19, triple murder on the south side of the island, which claimed the lives of three individuals, 28-year-old fisherman Karim Nazim Espat of DFC Area, 35-year-old carpenter Oscar Modesto Mas of Mosquito Coast, and 21-year-old Berlin Marisol Bueso Alvarez, a Honduran national of San Mateo Area, all of San Pedro Town.  Hernandez is believed to be one of three persons involved in the killings. Tonight, he remains the only one of the trio in custody, as the other two suspects are still at large.
